Partial Sun Succulents are those that like some direct sunlight, but not a ton of it. “Partial sun” is usually defined as needing, at the very most, six hours of sunlight a day. Although, many of these plants are happy at around four hours a day. The more delicate leaves possess a dainty charm that full-sun succulents don't usually have.
Care
On top of the usual succulent routine of well-draining soil and infrequent watering, location will be an important consideration for the care of partial-shade succulents. These plants tend to enjoy east or west facing exposures due to the consistent light in the mornings or evenings and protection from light for the rest of the day. You could also grow these plants near a taller plant that can provide shade for a portion of the day.
Low-sun succulents are significantly more forgiving as houseplants than full sun succulents are, due to their tolerance for lower light levels. These plants enjoy the west and east exposed windows which your full sun plants may stretch in. Even some minor shading from trees or buildings outside the window is tolerable to these plants.
The Plants
You’ll notice many plants in the genus Crassula on this list. These plants are beautifully structured with leaves that tend to stack on top of each other. These plants are commonly described as geometric. This geometric shape is best put on display by Crassula ‘Buddha’s Temple’.
Sempervivum also take up a significant amount of this list. These hens and chicks do well in spaces of your garden that are inhospitable to many other plants. Their tolerance of shade gives them another advantage for colonizing these hard to grow in spaces.
