Week 5: Christina, Wind Chime

For week 5, Christina has assembled this charming windchime!

Being a family owned business, we like to run the nursery like a big family. We thought a fun blog project would be to invite all our employees to make their own Succulent creations. We are asking one employee a week, starting alphabetically, to do so. At the end of each week we will “showcase” that employees design at the nursery, on the blog and on our Instagram.

Why a did you choose a wind chime design?

I chose a wind chime design because it was fun and I wanted to utilize things we sell at Mountain Crest Gardens.

How long did it take to make it and how many plants did you use?

This project took me four days to complete and I used 12 plants. I got the idea for a wind chime from packing our orders and seeing all the different items we sell and what people order.

How exactly did you make it?

I constructed it by sewing it together. Then fortified it with fishing wire to make sure it was strong enough. Then sewed on the beads & bell. I used the Moss tea pot and tea cup, Fairy garden tool set, lights, bird house and mini watering can and pail.

What are some of the plants you used and why?

I used 4 varieties of sedum, 3 air plants, 1 Crassula, and 1 Echeveria. I used these plants as they are hardy enough for the outdoors. 

What are your favorite Succulents?

My favorite succulents are Air Plants.

What are the most difficult succulents to work with?

The Euphorbias are the most difficult plants to work with as you have to be careful not to prick yourself with their needles.

Why or what do you love about working at MCG?

I love learning about the different succulents!
