DIY Succulent Desert
Week 10: Kevin, Desert Oasis

Being a family owned business, we like to run the nursery like a big family. We thought a fun blog project would be to invite all our employees to make their own Succulent creations. We are asking one employee a week, starting alphabetically, to do so. At the end of each week we will “showcase” that employees design at the nursery, on the blog and on our Instagram.
Why a Desert Theme?
I chose a desert them because when I saw the Aeoniums they reminded me of palm trees. That is what gave me the idea for an “oasis.”

How long did it take to make it and how many plants did you use?
It took me about an hour and I used 9 different plants.

How exactly did you make it?

I used mostly stuff we sell on our website, but some things I made by myself. I created the little rock details by breaking a larger rock apart to make the small jagged edges.
What are some of the plants you used and why?

I used 4 different types of Cactus and a few aloe plants, as these two types of succulents are naturally found in the desert. The Aeoniums were the perfect addition, like I mentioned earlier, as they looked like Palm trees.

What are your favorite Succulents?
It is hard to say, because there is something that I like about all of them.
What are the most difficult succulents to work with?
I’d say the ones with the fragile leaves, such as Sedum ‘Jelly Bean’, as they break easily.
Why or what do you love about working at MCG?
Everyone here is easy going. I have learned a lot about plants.
