Collectors Plants come in a jaw-dropping diversity of forms. Some don't even look like plants! These exotic succulents evolved around the world, though all the plants we sell are nursery-grown (not wild-collected). We specialize in propagating sought-after varieties like Lithops, Variegated String of Hearts, and Kalanchoe 'Pink Butterflies'. Be aware, some of these varieties are rare because they are more challenging to grow. And they don't stay in stock for long!
Rare plants can have very particular care needs, so be sure to consult the care info on each variety's page.
LIGHT
Gradually acclimate your plant to brighter sun over the course of one to two weeks after delivery. Sunny window sills, grow lights, and partial outdoor sun are perfect for most succulents, while leafy houseplants prefer bright, indirect light.
DRAINAGE
Re-pot your plant into a container with a drainage hole. Use a gritty, well-draining soil to prevent rot. Desert types like mesembs and caudiciforms grow well in extremely rocky soils like Bonsai Jack Gritty Mix.
WATER
All succulents are adapted to drought and are prone to rot if watered frequently or left in damp soil. Only water when the soil is completely dry and the leaves are starting to feel more flexible. When you do water, most succulents want a deep drenching (enough that water runs out the pot's drainage hole). Pay close attention to any seasonal dormancy listed in a given variety's description. Succulents should be left dry during their dormancy period.
Many houseplants, however, are native to tropical climates and should be kept lightly moist but not soggy. Keeping them in a humid room or on a pebble tray of water will help mimic jungle humidity.
