Tall & Large Growing Succulents

Tall succulent plants, obviously, take up a lot of space so, besides the usual succulent routine of fast draining soil and infrequent watering, room to grow will be a high priority. Check the description of each of these products for specific sizes. 

One thing to note is that hardiness zone will start to matter a lot more with these plants. That’s because they won’t be easy to move once they’re full size. If you have a soft plant from this list and you’re relying on moving it indoors for the winter, that move will only get harder every year. For the sake of your back, we recommend establishing a more permanent home quickly.

Speaking of hardiness zones…

Hardy succulents (i.e. many Opuntia, some Agave, ect.) are succulents who can take frost and cold weather. These plants tend to do better outside and, in many cases, prefer the harsh elements to the pampered life of an indoor plant.

Soft succulents (i.e. Echeveria, Portulacaria, most cacti) are succulents who cannot take frost and cold weather. These plants will need to be grown as houseplants or otherwise protected from the cold and harsh weather of winter. In sun rooms, greenhouses or zone 10 areas, these plants thrive.
