WHAT IS MY HARDINESS ZONE?
Growing Info
- Climate: Zone 4+ (-30F). Protect from heavy rain (what's my zone?)
- Where to Grow: S. heuffelii thrive outdoors in full to partial sun. Good for both containers and in-ground. Long-term indoor growing possible in areas with multiple hours of direct sun, but plants may stretch and fade
- Acclimation: Allow about two weeks to gradually transition from shade to partial sun after delivery
- Transplanting: We recommend transplanting within 1-2 weeks. If necessary, plants can stay in original pots for several weeks with proper care
- Soil: Use gritty, well-draining soil to promote root growth and minimize rot, e.g. a cactus or succulent potting mix from your local garden center
- Watering: Water deeply and only when the soil is completely dry. Actual frequency varies by location, container, soil, and season (learn more)
- Containers: Use any kind of container, but drainage holes are recommended
- Propagation: Propagate S. heuffelii by using a sharp, clean knife to divide rosettes (more info)
- Color: S. heuffelii hold their colors year-round; bright sunlight will bring out the most vibrant shades
- Blooms: S. heuffelii usually bloom every 2-5 years. Bloom stalk is 6.0"-12.0" with multiple yellow flowers. Once a mature plant blooms it dies, but the new rosettes it produced carry on for future years (learn more)
