Highlights
Sempervivum globiferum subsp. preissianum - Belianske Tatras is a rare and cold-hardy alpine succulent, prized for its compact, lime-green rosettes and the charming “roller” offsets it produces. This special form, originating from the rugged Belianske Tatras of Slovakia, thrives in rocky, well-drained soils and develops a tight, ground-hugging mat ideal for rock gardens, troughs, and alpine collections. The plant’s rounded chicks detach easily and roll away to establish new rosettes, adding to its dynamic appeal. Its foliage often flushes with red or bronze in high light or cool weather, offering year-round visual interest. Exceptionally tough and frost-resistant, this mountain-born Sempervivum delivers both novelty and natural resilience for collectors and hardy garden enthusiasts.
Hens & Chicks need plenty of outdoor sunlight to show their best colors and maintain a tight rosette form. They thrive in gritty, well-draining soils and pots with drainage holes. They produce new offsets or "chicks" on stolons. These chicks can be left to form tidy clusters or removed to share and transplant.
Sempervivum do most of their growing in the spring and summer, and will thrive with weekly watering and afternoon shade if temperatures exceed 80F. They are incredibly frost hardy and will happily thrive through winter under an insulating blanket of snow. Protect from heavy rains and standing water to prevent rot.
