Highlights
Sedum 'Stardust' (now Hylotelephium spectabile): A tall, showy stonecrop for garden borders and outdoor containers. This long-lived, easy to grow variety has 18.0"-24.0" tall stems and large, bright green leaves. It blooms late summer to mid fall with clusters of tiny, pure white flowers. This makes it an important late season resource for pollinators. Cut back the occasional pink-blooming stem at its base to maintain the white flowering habit. It survives extra cold winters by going dormant and losing its aboveground plant material, but resprouts anew every spring.
Hardy Sedum are easy, frost-hardy plants that thrive outdoors with full sun and great drainage. Plant in raised beds or containers with drainage holes and mix 50% coarse sand, pumice, or perlite into the soil to prevent rot. Regular water will help young plants establish roots and spread quickly, but mature Sedum can tolerate several months of drought. If you choose to propagate by hand, cut off the top 2.0"+ of stem and transplant it to re-root.
