Highlights
Mexican Sedum (Sedum stahlii): Tiny bead-like leaves grow on long, trailing stems, making it a great "spiller" in container arrangements. It tends to be dark in color, from russet to evergreen, and can bloom with small, star-shaped yellow flowers in spring or summer. This species tends to produce lots of aerial roots along its stems; this is a product of its creeping growth habit, and not necessarily a sign that it needs more water.
PLEASE NOTE: Leaves are very fragile and can fall off at the slightest touch. If your plant is missing some leaves upon arrival, just know they will grow back over time. Each leaf also has the potential to re-root and grow into a separate plant.
Soft Sedum need bright sunlight to maintain their colors and full leaf coverage. They will not survive a hard frost, but if there is a risk of freezing temperatures they can be brought indoors to grow on a sunny window sill or under a grow light.
Like most succulents, soft Sedum need great drainage and deep, infrequent water to prevent rot. Pick containers with drainage holes and use well-draining cactus and succulent soil with 50% to 70% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite. Water deeply enough for water to run out the drainage hole, then wait for the soil to fully dry before watering again.
Soft Sedum can be propagated from stem cuttings or mature leaves. Look to our Succulent Cuttings Guide for more information.
