Highlights
Burro's Tail, Donkey's Tail (Sedum morganianum): A bountiful trailing plant with 1.0'-3.0' long stems densely covered with overlapping green leaves. This species is similar to Burrito but has longer, pointier leaves. It is usually a silvery, lime-green color, though bright sun can bring out a yellow tint. Burro's Tail is particularly striking when grown in hanging baskets or cascading out of pots.
Though it has been cultivated for a long time, it was only recently discovered growing in the wild. It earned the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1993.
Like most succulents, soft Sedum need great drainage and deep, infrequent water to prevent rot. Pick containers with drainage holes and use well-draining cactus and succulent soil with 50% to 70% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite. Water deeply enough for water to run out the drainage hole, then wait for the soil to fully dry before watering again.
This variety can be propagated easily from stem cuttings. Look to our Succulent Cuttings Guide for more information.
