Highlights

Sedum burrito (aka S. morganianum 'Burrito') (Moran): One of the best-loved trailing soft succulents. Its pendant stems grow up to 3.0' long and are covered with bead-like, green leaves. It resembles its relative, Burro's Tail, but with shorter, rounder leaves. It originated in Veracruz, Mexico, though it has yet to be found in the wild.

Burrito thrives in hanging containers with drainage holes and gritty soil. It needs plenty of sunlight and protection from frost, but can tolerate drought and neglect. Water deeply when the soil is completely dry.

Leaves of this variety can fall off easily, but leaves and stem sections are easy to propagate by placing them back in the pot to re-grow roots. With years of growth, it can form a long, dense cascade. S. morganianum does not bloom dependably, but it can produce pink flowers at the tips of the stems in spring.

It's hard to say how fast it will take to trail, as that depends on many factors like watering frequency, light, soil quality, fertilizer and more. However, Sedum 'Burrito' is a quick grower compared to many other succulents.

Those particularly mature specimens on our website were submitted by customers, so we don't know exactly how many plants are involved. Burrito does tend to drop leaves and can quickly root from these leaves confusing the issue even more. However, two or three plants will do the trick if you have time to propagate.

Sedum Burrito likes to be on the dryer side, because it has quite chunky leaves that can store a lot of water. Grow it in gritty, well-draining soil and water deeply when the soil is completely dry and the leaves just start to feel flexible.

Should I water sedum burritos less during the winter? I'm in zone 9B in Pleasanton, CA See more »

Burrito grows the most in the spring and summer months and tends to go partially dormant in the winter. Although its water needs are reduced in the winter, it's still a good idea to give it a drink when its leaves start to wrinkle.

They can be grown in the same pot. They do well together because their care needs are nearly identical.

This plant does prefer a lot of light. However, you can explore our shade tolerant varieties by clicking the link below! We've also recently begun offering non-succulent houseplants by partnering with an excellent nursery call Little Prince Plants. They tend to tolerate shade as well.

That depends on your climate. This plant cannot survive a hard frost, so keep it indoors in a sunny window if there's a chance of frost. In frost-free weather, it can grow outdoors in part or full sun.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A GROW LIGHT

Light Output

  • Lumens are the main measure of light output or brightness you should consider. Our eyes are not very objective when it comes to measuring brightness, so it's important to read a grow light's specifications before purchase.
  • Select a grow light that provides 300 - 800 lumens per square foot.

They will if they're shipped with this Heat Pack. You can order just one and we'll include as many as necessary for your particular shipment. We recommend getting one if you expect high temperatures to dip below 40 degrees or low temperatures to dip below 25 degrees at any time in the next week. Plants tagged as [houseplants] in their title ship separately and automatically get free heat packs added when necessary.

I'm trying to create a succulent garden outside, but I live in the Phoenix AZ area. I'm not sure which plants will survive in the middle of summer. Please help me! I don't want to create a beautiful garden for them just to die in summer.

They're going to be in direct sunlight most of the day. Which it's not bad right now, but as I'm sure you know. It can get up to 120 degrees out here.

So any help will be helpful.

Thanks See more »

Cactus, Agave, Aloe and most Crassula are going to be your work horses for this garden. They're beautiful plants and can survive in harsh sun and heat. However, due to spines or mild toxins, these plants don't tend to make good walk way plants. If your garden has a path running through it, you may want to plant these away from that path.

Some varieties that would work well near a path or an edge to your garden are Graptopetalum paraguaynse, Sedum rubrotinctum, and Portulacaria as they're more safe.

All of the plants mentioned here are linked for your convenience, and you can click the link below to see all of our full sun succulents.
