Highlights
Pink Moonstone (Pachyphytum oviferum) (Purpus): An adorably rounded soft succulent that grows on cliffs in Central Mexico. Pachyphytum is Latin for "thick plant" and Moonstone (aka Sugar Almond Plant) really lives up to its name with round, chubby leaves. This pink form of the species can range from peachy pink to pale lilac and is coated in a powdery layer of farina for sun protection.
Though the rosettes stay under 4.0" wide, the stems can grow up to 8.0" long, either prostrate on the ground or trailing from a container. They are very easy to propagate, particularly from stem cuttings (more info) and they produce red and white flowers on 1.0' tall bloom stalks in early spring.
Pink Moonstone thrives with plenty of sunshine, deep, infrequent water, and great drainage. As a soft succulent, it needs protection from freezing temperatures, but it can overwinter indoors if kept near a sunny window or under a grow light. P. oviferum trails beautifully from pots, but try to use containers with drainage holes and gritty, well-draining soil. Water deeply enough for water to run out of the drainage hole, but do not water again until the soil has completely dried.
