Highlights
Oroya peruviana var. depressa (Rauh & Backeberg): A small, solitary cactus with coppery spines and white areoles. These areoles are long and narrow with spines emerging from their edges. In the spring or summer, a flush of fuchsia flowers emerge from the top quarter of the plant. It is a variable species native to high elevations in the Peruvian Andes. This relatively fast grower is easy to maintain and makes for a lovely window sill plant. This plant is fully rooted in a 3.5" pot.
This cactus variety is semi frost hardy to 10F, but be sure to withhold water in the winter months as excess moisture can rot it. Cactus need bright sunlight, great drainage, and infrequent water to prevent rot. Pick containers with drainage holes and use well-draining cactus and succulent soil with 70% to 80% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite. Water deeply and wait for the soil to completely dry out before watering again.
