Highlights
Haworthia cymbiformis f. planifolia (Duval): A bright, lime green rosette with wide, incurved leaves. In its native South African habitat, it grows shaded by larger plants or tucked into cliff crevices. For this reason, it is well-adapted to low-light and has translucent leaf "windows" to let more sunlight into the leaf interior. Established plants can tolerate more light, but moving young plants quickly into direct sun can lead to leaf burn.
H. planifolia is an ideal indoor plant, not only because it can tolerate low-light, but because it is a reliable grower and resists pests and disease well. The typical Haworthia pattern of winter growth and summer dormancy is not as clear in this species, and you can expect slow, prolific growth year-round when kept between 40F and 85F.
Key to this plant's health is excellent drainage - use a gritty soil and plant in pots with drainage holes. A strong root system is the result of deep, infrequent watering only after the soil has completely dried.
