Full Sun Succulents live to catch the rays of the sun. Now, all plants certainly need the sun to live but the plants on this list almost take a unique vigor from standing in the light all day. They've adapted to do just this and many of them have large leaves or stems with plenty of room to expose to the light.
Counter intuitively enough, plants can struggle with sunburn. This condition can even prove fatal if they are suddenly thrust into full sun conditions from partial shade. However, many of the plants on this list have ways of dealing with the harsh rays.
Farina is the most common. This dusty substance that coats the leaves of many succulents is actually a wax. It provides a natural shade cloth that breaks up the suns rays just enough to not overwhelm the plant. Do not rub this farina off as it does not grow back.
Fuzz is another adaptation to deal with full sun. Many succulents have hair to some degree or another. This hair works very similarly to farina but it tends to serve more than one function. Hairs can wick fog into the plant or hide buds from herbivores on top of being a natural sunscreen.
Despite these impressive adaptations to harsh sunlight, any plant will struggle if they are not introduced gradually to full sun conditions. Also, it’s important to note that more sun will lead to more water stress due to the increased rate of evaporation. Be sure to water your full sun plants a bit more than your other succulents.
