Highlights
'Lola' (bred by famed Echeveria hybridizer Dick Wright) is a gorgeous result of the cross E. lilacina x E. 'Deresina'. Its thick layer of farina (epicuticular wax) gives this sturdy rosette the appearance of marble with rosy, blushing undertones.
Grow 'Lola' in a windowsill pot or outdoors when the temperatures stay above freezing. Pick a sunny spot with excellent drainage and all this beauty will need from you is a deep watering every 3-7 days when the soil is completely dry. Each spring, a rosette can send up a 6" bloom stalk from which hang yellow and pink, bell-shaped flowers.
This Echeveria is easy to propagate from leaves and it will also produce a few offsets around its base that can be left in place or transplanted. After 2-3 years of growth, the bare stem under the rosette can be quite long. To keep the plant compact, simply lop off the rosette, leave it to dry 3-5 days, and lay it on moist, gritty soil to re-grow roots (more info). The old stem can also produce offsets after being cut.
