Highlights
Devil's Rope (Cylindropuntia imbricata) (Knuth): A twisty looking cactus that grows tall, branching stems. It is a prolific bloomer with "chains" of large, pink to magenta flowers that open in late afternoon. The glaucous green stems darken with age and have both spines and barbed glochids. In the wild, it grows tree-like and up to 10.0' tall.
One order = one stem segment about 6.0" to 8.0" - SHIPPED UNROOTED
CAUTION: Opuntia species have fine, barbed bristles called glochids. Glochids easily detach and can become loose in the box during shipping. They can pierce skin and leather gloves, so use tongs or twisted newspaper when handling. See our Opuntia Planting Guide for more tips.
Opuntia need plenty of full, outdoor sunlight and great drainage to thrive. They do well in gritty, mineral soils and pots with drainage holes. Over time you'll see new pads sprout from the plant, soon followed by its showy blooms.
Opuntia can tolerate high heat and extended drought and can eventually develop into a wide, shrubby living fence. They are semi-frost hardy to 15F. Protect from heavy rains and standing water to prevent rot.
Cuttings are not guaranteed to root, but our Opuntia Planting Guide can help increase the success rate.
