Highlights
Chasmatophyllum masculinum (Dinter & Schwantes): An easy to grow mesemb from South Africa that tolerates a wide range of conditions. This resilient grower has textured, green foliage that resemble fangs and blooms with sweet yellow flowers. It spreads as a mat of ground cover and has rhizomatous roots. Its native habitats range between rich and rocky soils and 6.0" to 30.0" of rain per year, so it can tolerate a wide range of conditions.
Chasmatophyllum are easy, frost hardy plants that thrive outdoors with full sun and great drainage. Plant in raised beds or containers with drainage holes and mix 50% mineral grit into the soil to prevent rot. Regular water will help young plants establish roots and spread quickly, but mature Chasmatophyllum can tolerate several months of drought. If you choose to propagate by hand, cut off the top 2.0"+ of stem and transplant it to re-root.
