Highlights
Bishop's Cap (Astrophytum myriostigma) (Lemaire): A collector's cactus with 3-10 wide ribs that give it a star-like shape. It grows in the deserts of northern and central Mexico and can reach 10.0" tall and 7.0" wide at maturity. The green stem is spineless and sometimes speckled with tiny white dots that help it camouflage in its rocky habitat. It blooms in spring/summer with a 3.0" long, shiny yellow flowers. This species earned the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. This plant is currently 1.0"-2.0" in diameter and fully rooted in a 3.5" pot.
Please Note: This species has 3-10 ribs, developing more as it ages. We cannot issue replacements, refunds, or store credit if you are dissatisfied with the number of ribs it currently has.
This cactus variety will not survive a hard frost, but if there is a risk of freezing temperatures it can be brought indoors to grow on a sunny window sill or under a grow light. Cactus need bright sunlight, great drainage, and infrequent water to prevent rot. Pick containers with drainage holes and use well-draining cactus and succulent soil with 70% to 80% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite. Water deeply and wait for the soil to completely dry out before watering again.
