Highlights
Aloinopsis luckhoffii: A clumping mesemb of thick, angular leaves with raised, white dots. They are adapted to dry, full sun environments in South Africa and their color and texture help them camouflage among the rocks in their native habitats. They produce a large yellow flower with lots of silky petals in the winter if grown in bright sun.
To help your A. luckhoffii thrive, plant in a container with a drainage hole that's deep enough to accommodate their long, tuberous root. Use a gritty, rapidly draining soil that's about 2:1 mineral (coarse sand, pumice, or perlite) to organic. Keep it on a very sunny windowsill or under a grow light and water in the spring and fall growing seasons if the soil is completely dry. Greatly reduce watering frequency in the summer and leave the plant completely dry during its winter dormancy. This variety will not tolerate hard frosts.
