Highlights
Agave parryi var. huachucensis is a robust and stately variety of Parry’s agave, native to the high-elevation deserts of southern Arizona. Distinguished by its large, upright rosettes and broad, blue-gray leaves, this agave offers a bold, architectural presence in drought-tolerant landscapes. Each leaf is tipped with a stout black spine and lined with subtle marginal teeth, adding to its rugged character. Highly cold-hardy and slow-growing, it thrives in full sun with well-drained soil and requires minimal maintenance once established. Over time, mature specimens may send up an impressive flower stalk over 10 feet tall, adorned with yellow blooms that attract hummingbirds and other pollinators. Ideal for xeriscapes, rock gardens, or container displays, A. parryi var. huachucensis delivers dramatic form with desert durability. This plant is fully rooted in a 1.5" plug.
Agave need plenty of full, outdoor sunlight and great drainage to thrive. They do well in gritty, mineral soils and pots with drainage holes. Over time you'll see new offsets or "pups" sprout up around the base of the mother plant.
Agave grow slowly in the spring and summer and can tolerate high heat and extended drought. This variety is only somewhat frost hardy and needs protection from heavy rains and standing water to prevent rot.
