Highlights
Agave parrasana (Berger): One of the hardier Agaves, this icy blue rosette features a compact form, with squat leaves, that adds a geometric look to the rock garden. It suckers rarely, so as not to adulterate the form of the mother plant. After many years, the plant blooms with an impressive array of sun yellow flowers on stalks nearly 20' tall. The mother plant then dies, leaving a few offsets in its place. This plant is fully rooted in a 1.5" pot.
Agave need plenty of full, outdoor sunlight and great drainage to thrive. They do well in gritty, mineral soils and pots with drainage holes. Over time you'll see new offsets or "pups" sprout up around the base of the mother plant.
Agave grow slowly in the spring and summer and can tolerate high heat and extended drought. This variety is only somewhat frost hardy and needs protection from heavy rains and standing water to prevent rot.
