Highlights
Agave isthmensis 'Gold Sprite': This variegated version of dwarf butterfly Agave boasts a gorgeous creamy yellow and moss green coloration that is sure to stand out! With age, the spines darken into a fierce maroon that adds contrast to the lighter tones of the leaf. This plant is small but fully rooted in a 3.25" pot.
Agave need plenty of full, outdoor sunlight and great drainage to thrive. They do well in gritty, mineral soils and pots with drainage holes. This species is drought tolerant as it has adapted to climates with only 4.0" to 5.0" of precipitation per year. Over time you'll see new offsets or "pups" sprout up around the base of the mother plant.
Agave grow slowly in the spring and summer and can tolerate high heat and extended drought. This variety is frost hardy and will happily thrive through winter under an insulating blanket of snow. If kept dry in winter, it can withstand temperatures as low as -20F. Protect from heavy rains and standing water to prevent rot.
