Highlights
Agave isthmensis (Dwarf Butterfly Agave): A miniature Agave with toothy leaves shaped like butterfly wings. This species is native to the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in southern Mexico. Its blue-green leaves have spiny margins and long, coppery terminal spines. This variety needs lots of sunlight a great drainage to thrive and can grow up to 12.0" wide. This plant is fully rooted in a 3.5" pot.
Agave need plenty of full, outdoor sunlight and great drainage to thrive. They do well in gritty, mineral soils and pots with drainage holes. Over time you'll see new offsets or "pups" sprout up within the leaves of the mother plant.
Agave grow slowly in the spring and summer and can tolerate high heat and extended drought. This variety is not frost hardy and needs protection from heavy rains and standing water to prevent rot.
