Highlights
Adenia viridiflora: An unusual, caudiciform succulent with a tall, tuberous base that resembles a yam. This wacky plant has a brown, woody caudex that sprouts tall, vining stems in spring with flat, deeply lobed leaves. It is native to Southeast Asia where it can grow stems over 70' long. In cultivation, plant the tuber atop gritty, well-draining soil with most of the caudex exposed. Keep the round node from which stems emerge be on top. This plant ships as an unrooted tuber and measures approximately 4.0" to 7.0" in length.
Please Note: Adenia are challenging growers and are shipped UNROOTED. They drop all of their leaves during their winter dormancy. Foliage will re-sprout in spring with proper care. Mature photo by Instagram user @testudoplants
Soft succulents will not survive a hard frost, but if there is a risk of freezing temperatures they can be brought indoors to grow on a sunny window sill or under a grow light. They need bright, indirect sunlight, good drainage, high humidity, infrequent water. Pick containers with drainage holes and use well-draining cactus and succulent soil with 50% to 70% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite. Water deeply enough in spring and summer for water to run out the drainage hole, then wait for the soil to fully dry before watering again. Withhold water through the plant's winter dormancy.
