Highlights
Sedum spurium 'Fool's Gold' (now Phedimus spurius): A gorgeous variegated ground cover that's easy to grow outdoors and adds great color to a garden. 'Fool's Gold' grows long stems with with stacks of thin, flexible leaves. The foliage is striped with wide bands of green, cream, and pink. Greater exposure to direct sun will bring out more intense red tones. This stunner spreads well and tolerates full sun, poor soil, and drought. It loses leaves each winter during dormancy but sprouts back in full force each spring. Come summer, it erupts in a sea of pink, star-shaped blossoms.
Hardy Sedum are easy, frost-hardy plants that thrive outdoors with full sun and great drainage. Plant in raised beds or containers with drainage holes and mix 50% coarse sand, pumice, or perlite into the soil to prevent rot. Regular water will help young plants establish roots and spread quickly, but mature Sedum can tolerate several months of drought. If you choose to propagate by hand, cut off the top 2.0"+ of stem and transplant it to re-root.
