Highlights

'Angelina' (also known as Petrosedum rupestre): A true standout in rock gardens and arrangements for its brilliant golden yellow foliage. It is a low growing, mat forming ground cover with needle-like leaves that look like a yellow, miniature spruce. Yellow flowers appear in midsummer on 6.0"-8.0" tall bloom stalks. This variety is a great choice in landscaping as it is low maintenance, looks good year-round, and grows well without overtaking neighboring plants.

Sedum are easy, resilient plants that thrive outdoors with full sun and great drainage. Plant in raised beds or containers with drainage holes and mix 50% coarse sand, pumice, or perlite into the soil to prevent rot. Regular water will help young plants establish roots and spread quickly, but mature Sedum can tolerate several months of drought. If you choose to propagate by hand, cut off the top 2.0"+ of stem and transplant it to re-root.

They are!
The deer may play with them a bit and rip them out of the ground at first, but they're super easy to replant. Once the deer figure out that they don't want to eat these, they'll leave them alone.

No, not all Sedum species are frost tolerant. You can always find the hardiness of a given plant in the product details section! Note that 'Angelina' IS hardy to zone 4 (-30F).

These are 2" plants so it would take a lot to completely fill 600 square feet. With one inch spacing, it would take 9,600 2" plants. But spacing is a matter of personal preference and they spread about 1" per month in the growing season, so you could certainly plant fewer and let them grow in over the years. We also recommend including large boulders and plants for large landscaping projects like this.

Yes. Sedum are known to be distasteful to rabbits. They may chew a little on the leaves at first, but they'll quickly realize that they hate the taste.

Snails can be a problem. One way to deal with snails is to fill a small cup with beer (or proofed yeast in sugar water). Bury this cup in your garden such that only the top 1/2" is exposed. Then wet the soil and plants around this cup. The yeast smell will attract the snails which will fall into the cup and drown in the liquid below.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A GROW LIGHT

Light Output

  • Lumens are the main measure of light output or brightness you should consider. Our eyes are not very objective when it comes to measuring brightness, so it's important to read a grow light's specifications before purchase.
  • Select a grow light that provides 300 - 800 lumens per square foot.

They will if they're shipped with this Heat Pack. You can order just one and we'll include as many as necessary for your particular shipment. We recommend getting one if you expect high temperatures to dip below 40 degrees or low temperatures to dip below 25 degrees at any time in the next week. Plants tagged as [houseplants] in their title ship separately and automatically get free heat packs added when necessary.

I'm trying to create a succulent garden outside, but I live in the Phoenix AZ area. I'm not sure which plants will survive in the middle of summer. Please help me! I don't want to create a beautiful garden for them just to die in summer.

They're going to be in direct sunlight most of the day. Which it's not bad right now, but as I'm sure you know. It can get up to 120 degrees out here.

So any help will be helpful.

Cactus, Agave, Aloe and most Crassula are going to be your work horses for this garden. They're beautiful plants and can survive in harsh sun and heat. However, due to spines or mild toxins, these plants don't tend to make good walk way plants. If your garden has a path running through it, you may want to plant these away from that path.

Some varieties that would work well near a path or an edge to your garden are Graptopetalum paraguaynse, Sedum rubrotinctum, and Portulacaria as they're more safe.

All of the plants mentioned here are linked for your convenience, and you can click the link below to see all of our full sun succulents.
