Highlights
Orostachys spinosa f. minuta: A rare, mini variety that forms dense clusters of tightly-packed rosettes. This Siberian species grows petite rosettes of blue-green foliage. It grows well outdoors in full to part sun and loves gritty, well-draining soil. Moderate stress from direct sun and restricted water can induce pink to purple flushing. It tends to bloom every other year with tall, yellow inflorescences.
Orostachys are easy, resilient plants that thrive outdoors with full sun and great drainage. Plant in raised beds or containers with drainage holes and mix 50% coarse sand, pumice, or perlite into the soil to prevent rot. Regular water will help young plants establish roots and spread quickly, but mature Orostachys can tolerate several months of drought. If you choose to propagate by hand, cut off a rosette and transplant it to re-root.
