Highlights
Pincushion Euphorbia (Euphorbia ferox): This fierce Euphorbia has extra thick, sharp, purple thorns and should be handled with care. It grows wild in South Africa and is extremely drought tolerant. Keep this spiky wonder in bright sunlight and it will produce clusters of offsets around its base.
PLEASE NOTE: Euphorbia contain a white, latex sap that can cause skin irritation or allergic reaction. Use gloves and eye protection to handle.
PLEASE NOTE: Euphorbia ferox is prone to corking. Corking presents as a harmless copper to tan scab near the base of the plant.
Euphorbia will not survive a hard frost, but if there is a risk of freezing temperatures they can be brought indoors to grow on a sunny window sill or under a grow light. They need bright sunlight, great drainage, and infrequent water to prevent rot. Pick containers with drainage holes and use well-draining cactus and succulent soil with 50% to 75% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite. Water deeply and wait for the soil to completely dry out before watering again.
