Highlights
Dudleya pulverulenta (Britton & Rose): One of the largest Dudleya, this rosette can reach up to 2.0' wide. It is a chalky plant with a thick, powdery coating of natural wax that helps it tolerate dry, sunny conditions. This species has broad leaves and can vary in color from pure white to silvery green. It blooms with reddish flowers on a tall bloom stalk and can eventually produce offsets and form a small clump. This plant is fully rooted in a 3.5" pot.
Dudleya need bright sunlight to maintain their colors and form. They will not survive a hard frost, but if there is a risk of freezing temperatures they can be brought indoors to grow on a sunny window sill or under a grow light.
Like most succulents, they need great drainage and infrequent water to prevent rot. Pick containers with drainage holes and use well-draining cactus and succulent soil with 50% to 70% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite. Water deeply enough for water to run out the drainage hole, then wait for the soil to fully dry before watering again. Dudleya are accustomed to winter rainfall and should be left dry during their summer dormancy. Keep water off the leaves to prevent rot and protect the powdery coating.
