Highlights

Variegated String of Hearts or Rosary Vine (Ceropegia woodii f. variegata) (Schlechter): A collector's species, this succulent is highly sought after for its trailing stems of heart-shaped leaves. The thin, reddish stems can form dense cascades up to 3.0' long. The sweetheart leaves grow in pairs and have a mottled pattern of white, green, and a soft pink blush. It also has phenomenal, trumpet-shaped flowers of pink and purple. It can develop tubers (underground or aerial) and grows a woody caudex as it matures. This plant is fully rooted in a 3.5" pot.

Soft succulents will not survive a hard frost, but if there is a risk of freezing temperatures they can be brought indoors to grow on a sunny window sill or under a grow light. They need ample sunlight, good drainage, and infrequent water to prevent rot. Pick containers with drainage holes and use well-draining cactus and succulent soil with 50% to 70% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite. Water deeply enough for water to run out the drainage hole, then wait for the soil to fully dry before watering again.

It tends to be restocked about once a month, but be aware, it sells out very fast. We highly recommend clicking the button that says Email Me When Product is Back in Stock and moving fast when you get the notification. Good luck!

No. It will look more like the first and second photos. That third photo is to show what a mature specimen looks like.

That depends on their growing conditions, such that, it's difficult to place a good estimate on growing speed.

What kind of grow lights do I need to keep its pink color like the photo? See more »
3 years ago  •  Staff Answer
We don't use grow lights for production, as it gets sunny enough in the greenhouse to achieve this variegation. If you don't get sufficient sunlight where you're growing these plants, I would recommend a full spectrum LED grow light. The link below has a ton more info on succulent grow lights. I hope this helps!

I want to repot variegated string of heart after arrival. Should I repot it right away? Some of my friends said it can die if I repot it, is it true ? See more »
3 years ago  •  Staff Answer
Go ahead and repot it within a few weeks of receiving it. If you use a bigger pot, make sure that it's no more than 2" bigger than the original 3.5" pot it comes in. I say that because, although the cocoa coir we use as soil is great for starting plants, it isn't a good long term soil due to its degradation.

Be really careful about water when doing this; allowing the soil to completely dry between waterings. Then, in the winter, heavily reduce or stop watering all together as the plant has entered dormancy.

Any product that is out of stock has an "Email Me When Product is Back in Stock" button. Click the button and enter your email to be notified when it's available again.

Many succulent varieties are only available seasonally because of their growing and propagation cycles. During the growing season, we can usually restock sets and trays weekly. Most individual plants will go in and out of stock through the seasons, but they are also restocked weekly when available. Thursday is usually the best day of the week for finding plants in stock. Spring and Summer are generally the best seasons for availability.

Thanks!

how do I propagate this plant string of hearts See more »
1 year ago  •  Staff Answer
String of hearts can be propagated via cuttings. They respond very well to water propagation. Simply cut a string that's roughly 3" in length with a clean knife. Be sure to remove the leaves closest to the cut end. Then dip the cut end into a glass of water and drape the other end over the lip of the glass. Give the cutting plenty of light and, once it forms roots, plant them into well draining soil. They'll appreciate more water at first, just until they develop their bulbs.
