Highlights
Medusa (Avonia quinaria ssp. alstonii) (Rowley): A truly bizarre succulent that resembles the head of the mythical Medusa. The base of the plant is a short caudex, a thick and slightly woody stem, while the branches are long, skinny, and meandering. The branches can be tipped by a flower bud that will open into a beautiful, royal purple flower. Its leaves are very short and pressed flat against their branches, giving a scaly appearance. It is especially attractive as a bonsai plant.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a fragile plant. Each pot will be wrapped for shipment, but the plant may fall out during transit. Simply replant in soil to let roots fully establish. Refunds will not be issued for rooting issues.
Soft succulents will not survive a hard frost, but if there is a risk of freezing temperatures they can be brought indoors to grow on a sunny window sill or under a grow light. They need bright sunlight, good drainage, and infrequent water to prevent rot. Pick containers with drainage holes and use well-draining cactus and succulent soil with 50% to 70% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite. Water deeply enough for water to run out the drainage hole, then wait for the soil to fully dry before watering again.
