Highlights

Stephania suberosa (Forman): An unusual, caudiciform succulent with a textured, tuberous base that resembles a potato. This wacky plant has a rough, woody caudex that sprouts tall, vining stems in spring with flat, round leaves. It is native to Southeast Asia where it grows with its caudex completely belowground. In cultivation, plant the tuber in gritty, well-draining soil with the top half exposed. Keep the round node from which stems emerge on top. This plant ships as an unrooted tuber and measures approximately 2.5" to 5.0" in length.

Please Note: Stephania are very challenging growers and are shipped UNROOTED. They drop all of their leaves during their winter dormancy. Foliage will re-sprout eventually with proper care, but it is an unpredictable process and we cannot guarantee it. These can take months to root and sprout leaves, so we cannot offer refunds or replacements.

Soft succulents will not survive a hard frost, but if there is a risk of freezing temperatures they can be brought indoors to grow on a sunny window sill or under a grow light. They need bright, indirect sunlight, good drainage, high humidity, and infrequent water. Pick containers with drainage holes and use well-draining cactus and succulent soil with 50% to 70% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite. Water deeply enough in spring and summer for water to run out the drainage hole, then wait for the soil to fully dry before watering again. Withhold water through the plant's winter dormancy.
